Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott

Amazon Synopsis: Everyone thinks their parents are embarrassing, but Hannah knows she's got them all beat. Her dad made a fortune showcasing photos of pretty girls and his party lifestyle all over the Internet, and her mom was once one of her dad's girlfriends and is now the star of her own website. After getting the wrong kind of attention for way too long, Hannah has mastered the art of staying under the radar...and that's just how she likes it.
Of course, that doesn't help her get noticed by her crush. Hannah's sure that gorgeous, sensitive Josh is her soul mate. But trying to get him to notice her; wondering why she suddenly can't stop thinking about another guy, Finn; and dealing with her parents make Hannah feel like she's going crazy. Yet she's determined to make things work out the way she wants -- only what she wants may not be what she needs....

This is a book that I bought for cheap at my local book store. This book store tends to sell scratch and dent books for incredibly low prices so I often find myself getting a couple that I would not have bought for full price. I had never heard of the author before but I am now dying to pick up some more of her work.

Here we follow Hannah, daughter to a Hugh Hefner type reality star and his former 'girl'. Hannah is not particularly vain and has a love for big shirts. She does have a crush though and unfortunately he has no idea she likes him. In this book the audience follows Hannah as she tries to juggle a scantily clad former celebrity, a fashionable best friend in crisis, and her first attempt at wooing her perfect guy.

Firstly, I feel we need to focus on Hannah as a character because she is truly a character to admire. She has had a pretty hard time during her short life on the earth but she seems to have fought and thrived by becoming an independent person that knows her own mind (...sometimes). She is a funny character that does not conform to anything even if it means people will like her. She is comfortable in her skin and refreshingly it is not her looks that she is down about but her intellect. She thinks she is not smart enough for the guy she likes and though this is an awful thing for the character to think it is nice to not have a character that solely worries about her appearance.

The story itself is basic but takes on a more complex narrative as it progresses. The author really knew how to use and reveal the back stories of the characters. It was predictable at some points of the novel, specifically regarding some characters intentions, but it was also emotive. So emotive in fact that I wanted to cry at one point.... on the bus.... at rush hour.

With summer coming along and people getting ready for the beach this book is a must read. It is the perfect summer read for a holiday or just in your back garden. The uplifting but also heart string pulling story will have you getting through it in one sitting. Something, Maybe has substance and sass that will take you on an addictive journey you cannot help but enjoy.
